Arvigo Abdominal Massage
The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy® (ATMAT), often called Arvigo Maya Abdominal Massage, is a respected and effective form of abdominal massage. Its origins lie in traditional Maya bodywork and healing methods, combined with modern scientific approaches.
ATMAT is also known as “fertility massage,” “womb massage,” or simply “Arvigo abdominal massage.” ATMAT helps relieve a wide variety of reproductive complaints. It corrects pelvic and abdominal misalignment, frees pelvic congestion and organ constriction, and improves the flow of blood, lymph, and energy to the pelvis and abdomen. It can gently reposition the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, and other organs that may have shifted out of place for whatever reason, thereby creating “stagnation” and “stasis,” which result from restricted flow of blood, lymph, nerves, and Qi.
In addition to acupuncture, this type of massage helps improve blood flow and circulation to your reproductive and digestive organs. Men can also benefit from this therapy, even without a uterus, because they have a prostate and other internal reproductive ducts and tissues located in the same general area. Abdominal massage can help address male fertility challenges as well, whether the gentleman has a suboptimal sperm analysis or simply wants to enhance fertility and optimize sperm quality and quantity.
Female Urinary, Uterine, and Reproductive Health
Unfortunately, many women in our society suffer from some form of reproductive disease, be it dysmenorrhea (painful periods), premenstrual syndrome, unexplained infertility, or endometriosis—the list goes on. While many women seek help for these ailments from their gynecologists, Western medicine offers a limited range of options, such as hormonal treatments (including birth control pills) and surgeries.
These treatments are, for the most part, fairly invasive and often address only the symptoms of the issue, not the root cause.
While a diagnosis of any reproductive disease can seem dire, the Arvigo Abdominal Massage has proven effective at relieving a wide range of reproductive conditions.
By increasing vital healing flows (blood, lymph, nerve, energy) to reproductive organs, ensuring they are properly positioned, and removing adhesions from the pelvis and abdomen, we can effectively relieve many common reproductive and urinary ailments.
Digestive Health
Digestive health is the foundation upon which our bodies operate. Not only is digestion a function of our physical bodies, but it is also deeply intertwined with our emotions. The phrase “My stomach was in knots,” while certainly metaphorical, describes a real phenomenon of tightening within our abdominal cavity that occurs when we are under stress.
If one is constantly stressed, depressed, and anxious, these “gut feelings” can turn into real adhesions and blockages that prevent good digestion and proper blood flow to the area. Similarly, when we have excess inflammation in the gut, whether from inflammatory foods, injuries, or illness, we experience a similar phenomenon of blockage and adhesion within our digestive tract.
Abdominal massage can break up small adhesions and free the gut from any blockages that may be present, whether emotional, physical, or both. Improved blood flow brings more nutrients to the area and helps move along digestive processes. Many people with digestive disorders.
History of Arvigo Abdominal Massage
The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy® were founded by Dr. Rosita Arvigo, DN, a naprapathic physician and master herbalist. She has lived in Belize and studied with traditional healers for more than 30 years. The most formative relationship leading to the creation of ATMAT was her apprenticeship with the renowned Maya shaman Don Elijio Panti, from whom she learned much about traditional herbalism and bodywork techniques. She also studied with Miss Hortense Robinson, a well-known midwife in Belize. Combining her knowledge of Western approaches to anatomy, physiology, and naprapathy with traditional healing methods learned from Belizean healers, she formulated what is now known as the Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy®.
